IADB to finance Uruguay’s road rehabilitation, maintenance and planning with US$ 200M
The Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) has approved a USD 200 million loan to fund rehabilitation and maintenance works on Routes 8, 13, 39 and 15, which form part of Uruguay’s National Road Network (RVN).
The contracts to be awarded will run for approximately seven years and will be divided into two phases. The first phase, lasting two years, will focus on infrastructure works and road surface rehabilitation. The second phase, expected to last five years, will aim to maintain the required quality standards.
All rehabilitation and maintenance contracts will follow a fifth-generation model and are part of the Ministry of Transport and Public Works’ (MTOP) public policy to improve the efficiency of public spending on road infrastructure, implemented through the Uruguayan Road Corporation (CVU). These works are also aligned with the IDB Group’s South Connection initiative, which seeks to promote connectivity, trade and sustainable growth across South America.
The IDB-funded program will also include institutional reforms aimed at improving road infrastructure planning and strengthening road asset management.
In this regard, the program seeks to meet the objectives set out in Uruguay’s current Country Strategy, which identifies investment in infrastructure as a priority for boosting productivity, improving territorial connectivity and promoting regional integration.
The initiative is part of the Conditional Credit Line for Investment Projects (CCLIP) and will have a repayment period of 22.5 years.
