Argentina to modernize public administration and strengthen digital government with IDB support

Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) approved a loan of US$300 million to fund National State Transformation I operation, through which it aims to modernize public administration, increase its efficiency, and deepen its digitalization.

The investments will be aimed at reforming public employment management through merit-based selection processes, implementing a new human resources management system, and introducing voluntary retirement programs.

Additionally, shared digital infrastructure will be financed, along with the updating of public procurement platforms and the modernization of the systems used to manage public assets, in order to improve the government’s digital capabilities. This is also intended to contribute to the efficiency, transparency, and planning of government technological resources, as well as to the interoperability of its operations.

This program is part of Argentina’s strategy to modernize and increase the efficiency of its public administration. Likewise, the operation is aligned with the IDB’s Country Strategy with Argentina 2025-2028 and provides a framework that enables the long-term development of successive state transformation initiatives at both the federal and sub-federal levels.

The loan provided by the IDB has a four-year disbursement period and will be financed with the bank’s own Ordinary Capital resources. This is the first operation under a credit line of up to US$800 million for investment projects (CCLIP).
