World Bank Group Supports Cadastre Modernization in Panama
The World Bank (WB) has approved funding of up to $60 million to modernise Panama’s land registry system. The aim is to improve land management, facilitate access to property services and strengthen the conditions for investment.
The programme will develop an integrated digital land registry containing up-to-date and accessible information. Currently, only 36% of the territory has land registry data, and barely 19% of properties have title deeds, which limits legal certainty and the efficient use of land.
The initiative will streamline administrative procedures, improve access to reliable information and benefit both citizens and the private sector. It is also expected to create around 1,200 direct jobs and have a positive impact on investment and access to credit.
The project forms part of a wider programme, valued at $95.15 million, which will be implemented in partnership with the Government of Panama under a results-based financing scheme known as Transforming Panama Cadaster Program for Results.
