CAF mobilizes USD 3.5 billion to boost development in Latin America and the Caribbean
The Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) approved a financial package of USD 3.5 billion, distributed across 15 operations in 10 countries, to promote strategic projects and address the region’s economic, social, environmental, and infrastructure challenges.
The funds will be allocated to infrastructure, transportation, energy, education, climate action, disaster recovery, and productive development. The package includes financing for national and local governments, private companies, and financial institutions, as well as mechanisms designed to mobilize additional resources. In addition, it will allocate USD 1 billion to address the potential impacts of El Niño in 2026–2027.
Approved Projects:
- Argentina: USD 160 million to modernize National Route 40 in San Juan.
- Argentina: USD 145 million to modernize Line B of the Buenos Aires Subway–
- Bolivia: USD 224 million to restart strategic road projects.
- Brazil: Up to USD 500 million to modernize the power grid in Minas Gerais.
- Chile: Expansion of the credit line to BancoEstado to USD 400 million.
- Colombia: USD 350 million for climate action, biodiversity, and the blue economy.
- Colombia: Up to USD 150 million to support reconstruction following the August 10 earthquake.
- Colombia: Up to USD 200 million for the La Dorada–Chiriguaná rail corridor.
- Colombia: Up to USD 250 million for strategic projects under the Medellín Development Plan.
- Colombia: Up to USD 300 million for the Medellín Metro Investment Plan.
- Ecuador: USD 150 million for education, sports, and culture.
- Honduras: Up to USD 177 million to strengthen the electricity system.
- Uruguay: Up to USD 120 million for ANCAP’s investment plan.
- Regional operation: Expansion of the credit line to Bladex to USD 250 million.
