Argentina advances the digital transformation of its healthcare system with IDB support
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved $85 million in funding to advance the digital modernisation of the healthcare system in the province of Mendoza, Argentina. The initiative aims to improve healthcare through new technologies and will benefit more than 1.2 million people.
The programme aims to strengthen the technological infrastructure of hospitals and health centres. Key improvements include the expansion of remote services, the digitisation of diagnostic imaging, and the optimisation of the hospital medication system to enhance patient safety. Digital portals will also be developed to facilitate interaction and remote care.
In addition to incorporating technology, the project includes training for healthcare staff. Resources will be invested in digital platforms, data analysis tools and institutional capacity-building, with the aim of creating a more connected, secure and efficient healthcare system.
The initiative in Mendoza marks the first transaction under a wider $700 million Conditional Credit Line for Investment Projects (CCLIP) aimed at driving the digital transformation of Argentina’s healthcare system.
The overall aim of the programme is to reduce the impact of chronic diseases and improve the quality of life of the population through digital tools that enable medical information to be shared more quickly between different health services, provinces and the national government. It is hoped that this will speed up diagnoses, treatments and patient follow-up.
