Keys to the Training Workshop: “The Award Contract and Its Execution. Technical and Economic Aspects to Consider”

The Galician Business Confederation (CEG), through its International Tenders Service (SALT) and in collaboration with the Galician Institute for Economic Promotion (IGAPE), continues to promote training for Galician companies in Multilateral Tenders through 2025. Within this framework, the fourth of these workshops, entitled “The Award Contract and Its Execution. Technical and Economic Aspects to Consider,” was held on Wednesday, April 2, in a hybrid format: in person at the CEG Galicia Hall in Santiago de Compostela and online through TEAMS.

This workshop was organized by Karine Brück International, a consulting firm specializing in facilitating the participation of national and international companies in international contracting and tendering processes.

The workshop focused on the phases of the contract award and execution process in multilateral projects, highlighting key aspects such as contract planning and management, modification and contingency management, and case study evaluation.

During the workshop, the main criteria used by multilateral organizations in contract awarding were addressed, emphasizing the importance of transparency and fairness in these processes. A review of the documents required for contract awarding was conducted, including the management of guarantees. In addition, the fundamental characteristics of contracts were detailed, including their legal obligations and the need to strictly comply with the established financial terms.

Monitoring and control mechanisms during contract execution were also studied, covering key milestones, verification of deliverables, and compliance with administrative and technical requirements. Emphasis was placed on the importance of meeting deadlines and budgets, as well as the need to establish control indicators that allow for timely detection and correction of deviations.

Another aspect covered in the workshop was contingency management and contractual modifications, exploring strategies to mitigate risks and ensure the proper execution of projects without affecting their viability by making contractual adjustments when circumstances warrant, ensuring compliance with terms and avoiding penalties.

In addition, case studies based on real-life experiences were presented and analyzed, such as delays in product delivery within consortia, invoicing errors, and budget execution issues, along with strategies for their prevention and resolution.

This final workshop in the SALT 2024/25 workshop series provided attendees with a practical and detailed guide to optimizing contract management in the multilateral arena.
