CAF promotes sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean with a $1.445 billion investment

This Thursday, March 27, at its first board meeting of 2025, held in Santiago, Chile, the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) approved US$1.445 billion in financing for strategic projects in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, El Salvador and Honduras. This investment seeks to strengthen key areas such as infrastructure, urban mobility, education, migration management and business competitiveness.

As part of its commitment to regional integration, during the meeting CAF announced the opening of a new headquarters in Santiago, Chile. In addition, CAF presented a new agricultural prosperity strategy, the Transparency Report 2024 and a strategic security framework for Latin America and the Caribbean. Ties with the private sector and civil society were strengthened through agreements with various institutions, reflecting a multidimensional approach to sustainable development.

Projects by Country

  • Argentina: Implementation of an integrated urban and metropolitan logistics program in Greater Rosario, Santa Fe, to improve metropolitan integration and enhance the province’s productive development.
  • Brazil: Development of an urbanization and mobility program in Fortaleza, which includes mobility, urban development, basic sanitation and environmental projects to improve the quality of urban life.
  • Chile: Execution of works related to the San Antonio Outer Port Project, aimed at improving port infrastructure and increasing cargo transfer capacity, facilitating the integration of the country’s central macro-zone.
  • El Salvador: Implementation of a project to modernize the educational system, focused on optimizing the school system, incorporating educational technologies and strengthening teacher training.
  • Honduras: Development of a program to support the national human mobility strategy, aimed at strengthening government policies and actions to promote and protect the rights of people in mobility situations.
